Throughout the 1920’s the Ku Klux Klan or KKK were a very powerful and influential group of white protestant men in the United States. This powerful group advocated white supremacy, racism, anti-Catholicism, and nativism just to name a few things. Many of the KKK members, as well as their followers disagreed with abolishing slavery and believed that immigrants, homosexuals, and southern Republicans along with many others threatened American values. The Klan hit its peak during the mid-1920s with millions of members across the country (Wormser, 2002). The groups’ popularity came from their violent reputations, as well as the print and media coverage they received throughout the years. This soon allowed the Klan to have a powerful political influence at both the state and local level. Where do granular WBCs come from? Granulopoiesis – formation of granular leukocytes (WBCs) This process occurs in bone marrow along side erythropoiesis with each type (eosinophil, basophil, neutrophil) going through its own pathway. Two processes take place simultaneously: (1) nuclei condense to adult form (bi-lobed, multi-lobed, etc) and (2) the cell begins to synthesize and collect its specific granule population. I. Managerial Economics for Unemployment Figure - myassignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about theManagerial Economics for Unemployment Figure. Answer: The impact of the recessions in the labor market is common, and both the developed economy United States of America and Australia was suffering for the recessions. The recessions dropped severe adverse impact on the economies. The main reasons behind this are as follows: as the recession decrease the jobs as well as job opportunities so that unemployment increased inevitably in both the countries. In this matter, it is important that the economies will take care of the recessions and the outcome of the recessions. The unemployment issue is also minimized by the various initiations from the country. The economy has to develop effective strategies and economic policies that help in improving the situation of the economics condition of the country (Papapetrou and Tsalaporta 2016). The Pigous theory of unemployment is efficient in this matter that helps in deciding the unemployment factors of the economy. It supports in improving the unemployment situation of the country. Introduction The unemployment is one of the most important aspects of economies, and it plays a vital role in measuring the economic level of the nations. It is mainly a critical situation of being jobless. The unemployment figure of the countries provides the knowledge about the proportion or number of are jobless within the countries (Balakrishnan and Michelacci 2012). The unemployment is a phenomenon while an individual unable to find a job despite the person actively searching for a job. The most used assessment of unemployment is the rate of unemployment. The rate of unemployment is usually measured by dividing the number of people in the labor force and the number of unemployed people residing in a country. Critical Review of Article 1 The vital measure of the economic policy of a country is the degree of spare capability in the economy. The factor is hugely dependent upon the balance of the demand of goods as well as services compare to the capacity of the economy in order generate the products and services. A downfall of the demand outcome in the spare capacity and put downwards pressure on the inflation. On the other hand, the excessive demand outcome in capacity becomes limited and put upward pressure on the inflation. One of the key indications of the spare capacity of a country or economy is the unemployment rate of the country (Brdsen, Hurn and McHugh 2012). The high unemployment rate indicates that there is a large amount of people are ready to join the job market and willing to work. However, they are not involved in the production. It indicates that the economy or the country is operating below the potentiality of the economy. There are several different factors which have various impacts on the unemploym ent of the country. The most common factors that affect the unemployment rate are as follows: the lack or deficiency of demand for the labor, perceived discrepancy among the individual plus the available vacancies, and frictional unemployment. The deficiency in the demand for labor is the result of a usual shortage of vacancies where the applicants are in huge numbers, and the vacancies are too short. In this case, the ready people are huge for the job who demand job, but the economy has not opportunity and unable to create a job for the people who are unemployed. This is a critical situation for the economy when the unemployment rate is increased as the economy cannot be able to produce adequate job opportunities for the people of this country. A lacking of job demand results in a usual shortage of the job vacancies within the nation or the economy. The applicant is huge, and the labor demand is minimal that short the economy and the inflation rate of the economy is also affected adversely (Berg, Lomwel and Ours 2015). The lack of opportunity in the labor market in the economy put great pressure on the economy. The demand in the labor market in the case is decreasing it means the economy is unable to generate jobs for the people of the country. Moreover, more and more people are remaining unemployed in this condition that is horrific for the economy of the nation. The category or segment possibly expected to be a reasonable gauge of spare capability in the market related to the labor force of the country. The perceived mismatch or disparity between the individual as well as available vacancies is also a great factor of increasing unemployment in a nation. In this particular case, the mismatch occurs because of the features of the people who seek a job. The skills, experience, educational qualification as well as different needs of the job must be made. These job seekers may face the unemployment for the more structural causes, however; they may be frictionally stayed unemployed because of the general problems in searching the work or jobs. The frictional unemployment indicates unusual problems in employments. The unemployment because of lacking labour demand has been specifically recurring increasing sharply along with the recession in the early 1990s, reducing to very lower level by the middle of 2000s (Caggiano, Castelnuovo and Groshenny 2014). Moreover, then rising again when occurring the global financial crisis. The unemployment caused by the mismatch between the jobseekers and t he available jobs, which is enhanced after the initial period of 1990s recession probably because of hysteresis, however, has reduced consistently from there as well as has been steady until the middle of 2000s. Ultimately, the job seekers were reporting that there are not any difficulties. Moreover, the situation is remarkably steady over the time. This information is ideally relevant to the reason for unemployment. Critical Review of Article 2 The unemployment rate of the USS is depicted to be showing the substantial swing during the year 2007-2009 which is leading the country to the economic crisis. Therefore the recovery of the labour market is very much essential for the showing the estimations as it is being revealed in this article. The article Uncertainty shocks and unemployment dynamics in U.S. recessions by the Giovanni Caggiano, Efrem Castelnuovo and Nicolas Groshenny simply explains the effects of the uncertainty shocks that are had been created on the unemployment dynamics. This simply explains the facts that are shown to be non-linear in nature and also it is depicted to be explaining the processes of the recovery of the US labour market. The justifications are provided in the form of identifying the drivers behind this and also it helps in explaining the evolution of the US unemployment rate which is depicted to be of great importance for the policy markers (Dehejia and Dwyer 2013). Therefore it can be easily evident from the rising of the uncertainties which is being indicated as a significant factor that is holding back the recovery pace. The focus is being made on the growth, high employment and the significant uncertainties which are surrounding the market in the form of the risks as it had been undertaken in the study. This simply explains the appropriate structure of the impact which is representing the shocks on the unemployment and also the post WWII recessionary episodes are presented in the form of the proofs and also the justification can be easily made by the help of this. The proper analysis is being made by showing the concern which is being created in the form of the role of the uncertainty and also the macroeconomic level is being determined by showing the economic levels of the work. This is depicted to be creating an impact on the study which is being generated in the form of the models and also the dynamic stochastic nature is being depicted in the form of the general equilibrium models. The enhancement of the study is being represented in the form of relating the general literature which are used for explaining the study as it is being provided in this case. The study is explaining the identification of the uncertainty shocks which is being made by using the VAR model and also the liner VAR frameworks are explained in this case which is explaining the standard tool in the form of the empirical microeconomic condition (Hannsgen 2014). The characterization of the US economic model is depicted to be surrounding the asymmetric dynamics of the business model, and also the various phases are explained in the form of the non-linearity as it is explained in this case. The explanation of the work is being explained by showing the isolation of the impact which is showing the impact on the study and also the employment trends are adopting the framework as it is being explained by showing the non-linear STVAR model. This model is being used for showing the uncovering of the effects which is being been being used for showing the conditional models and also the recessions are then contrasted with showing the production of the work. This simply is iden tifying the enhancement of the unemployment rate, and also the business cycle frequencies are appropriately explained by showing the shock turns as it is being illustrated to be showing the unemployment errors in the form of the policy rates and the inflation. This is simply illustrating the work of the uncertainties which is being explained by showing the non-linear VAR analysis which is showing the enhancement of the work. This is simply explaining the varieties of the competing linearity, and the non-linearity can be easily defined by showing the enhancement of the work. This simply explains the shorter sample of the asymmetries which is being characterized by showing the evolution of the unemployment rates over the business as it is being explained in this case. Comparative Analysis of Both the Articles for two Different Countries The country Australia is one of the developed countries in the world face the significant impact of the global recessions as like any other developed countries this particular country is also facing the effects of global shocks because of the global financial crisis or global recessions. The global recessions make the opportunities of job reduced in this country also. The demand in the job market is reduced then the job seekers are also increased that reduce the job opportunities for the job seekers (Junankar and Price 2011). The increment of the job seeker means there are increased numbers of people who are ready for the job and want to do the job but the economy is unable to make adequate job opportunities for the people that improve the inflation rate of the economy. The job demand has reduced that support to making the job opportunities for the economy. The economy is reduced because of the unemployment. The unemployment for not producing an adequate job in the economy has an adv erse impact on the people of the country. The job reduced the unemployment opportunities in work. As per the Article "Uncertainty shocks and unemployment dynamics in U.S. recessions" by the Giovanni Caggiano, Efrem Castelnuovo, and Nicolas Groshenny, it is illustrating the impact of the uncertainty shocks which is being faced during the recession and also it can be identified by explaining the effects and the models of the analysis. This is simply showing the explanation of the work as it is being made for illustrating the results undertaken for the study. The focus is made on the underestimation process undertaken by the US which leads the country to face the impact of the economy by creating the impact on the labor organization. The sampling process is being used for showing the illustrations of the data and also the appropriate mitigation of the work process is being made by showing the increment of the reaction. The capability can be easily explained by illustrating the various explanations, and also the STVAR models are used in the article which is showing the comparative an alysis as it is being undertaken in this case. This is simply explaining the structure of the autoregressive model and also the study is being made by illustrating the models with featuring the two distinct regimes (Karanassou and Snower 2009). This is showing the construction of the US business cycle as it is being explained in the form of the indication and also the averaging for showing the asymmetric characterisation of the countries. The simple explanation is being made by illustrating the multivariate approach and also the unemployment rate is justified by showing the clarification of the indicators. The simple modeling of the justifications are used in the form of the multivariate approach which is illustrating the standard of the work and also the expansion of the views of the uncertainty can be made by showing the negative effect on the potential consumption of the marginal utility. This is simply explaining the enhancement of the measurements which is being displayed by sh owing the nonlinearity in the form variation of the life cycle as it is undertaken in this case. The lowering of the expected value can be easily made by showing the fulfillment of the values as it is used for constructing the growth. This is simply explaining the identification of the paths for showing the enhancement of the work and also the appropriate explanation can be easily conducted in the form of the study. The explanation is the study is surrounding the explanation of the work is showing the explanation of the work, and also the asymmetric characteristics can be made by explaining the study. The increment of the uncertainty shocks is showing the explanation of the multivariate conditions which is being made by showing the explanation of the work (Papapetrou and Tsalaporta 2016). Application of Theory to the Analysis The Pigous Theory of Unemployment is being undertaken for the study which is simply explaining the height of the unemployment as it is being included in this case. This is seemed to be explaining the clarification of the policies which is being used for illustrating the appropriate views as it is being undertaken for the study. This is simply explaining the structure of the argument which is being used for the study and also the clarifications can be easily made by showing the illustrations of the work. The theory is illustrating the true meaning of the mathematical areas which are used for showing the explanation of the study and also the reflection is being made by showing the significance of this theory. The representation of the work can be made by illustrating the theory of unemployment which is reflecting the work as it is explained in this case (Shimer 2012). The theory of the unemployment is also illustrating the work which is being used for reflecting the reasons that are us ed for showing the discussion on the features and also the explanation is being made is illustrating the reduction of the impact as it is being explained in this study. The theory is revolving round the mitigation of the issues which is being used for showing the explanations of the work and also the final goal of mitigating the unemployment issues as identified by the VAR model can be easily made. This shows the appropriate enhancement of the goal as it is being prefixed by the study and also the explanation is being made to be showing the terms of the micro and the macro adjustments as is being provided in the theory in the form of the two distinctive parts. This is simply showing the commencements which are being used for the study and also the distinction between the two parts are made for showing the illustrations of the work. The research agenda is being made by showing the explanation of the work as it is being justified to be showing the enhancement of the institutional work . This is simply explaining the structure of the work which is being explained by showing the adjustments that is implemented in the form of the rules and the regulations. The implementation is justifying the Labour market conditions of the US and Australia and the relative levels of the stability can be easily gained in the form of the Royal Commissions. The Protection of the work can be made by illustrating the workings as it is being focused on the work and also the development of the work is showing the appropriate explanation of the economy as it is being explained in the form of this study. The appropriate analysis is being made by illustrating the views of these issues as it is undertaken for mitigation. Conclusion and Recommendations The unemployment is one of the significant factors of the economy. It is considered as one of the most crucial indicators of the economy of a country. The unemployment rate gives a vital measurement of spare capacity in the market related to the labor force as well as the economy in general. However, there are other factors that also affect the unemployment which makes it complicated to interpret at the time of informing the financial policy of the country. The statistical methods can be utilized to compute the extent or degree to which the unemployment rate reflects the spare capacity against more lasting structural factors. This associate computing the information from NAIRU. The information can also be collected by the structure of the unemployment. The jobseeker with the certain features possibly more suggestive of the spare capability in comparison to the others. These approaches provide the suggestions or recommend that the spare capacity in the market of the labour force has e nhanced over the time in the past few years (Shutes 2012). However, the spare capacity in the labor related market still well less that succeeded over much of 1990s scarcity. Risjord begins with Jeffersons birth on April 13, 1743 on his fathers plantation, Shadwell, in Goochland County on the western edge. The narrative continues on to show Jefferson graduating from William and Mary College, then entering politics in Virginians House of Burgesses in 1769. Jefferson married Martha Skelton on New Years Day, 1772. With the Virginia legislature from 1776 to 1779, Jefferson formed the groundwork for abolition of entail and primogeniture, for the establishment of religious freedom, and not for the public school system. Jefferson was of course the author of the Declaration of Independence, and because he had set this document in motion, he waited out the Revolutionary War to see if the colonies would win. If they had lost, Jefferson would have been hanged for treason against the King of England. He served as the minister to France from 1785 to 1789. At this time there was growing opposition to Alexander Hamilton and his policies, and Jefferson associated himself with a group called the Republicans, who were actually forerunners to the present Democratic Party. While Jefferson was serving as vice President from 1797 to 1801, he drafted the Kentucky Resolutions. He was elected President following a long deadlock with Aaron Burr in the House of Representatives. This happened mainly because Alexander Hamilton considered Burr the more dangerous man and he gave his support to Jefferson. Jeffersons election was a great victory for the democratic forces, but it was black Tuesday to the thousands of Federalists who believed that the Republican leader was an atheistic anarchist who feared that his administration would be that of a bloodyhanded revolutionist. Jefferson was the first President to be inaugurated in Washington, a city that he had helped to plan. He became famous for the republican simplicity that he established there. During his first administration he achieved the Louisiana Purchase and oversaw the Lewis and Clark Expedition. During his second administration, Jefferson tried to enforce such measures as the Embargo Act of 1807, even though this brought a great deal of opposition. Once he retired from public life, Jefferson moved back to his beloved Monticello. It was at this time that he founded the University of Virginia and continued his activities as a scientist, architect, and philosopher-statesman. In his later years, Jefferson wrote about his view of the future, when he saw that the people would be enlightened by free education. Under a forward thinking democratic-republican institution, the people could govern themselves better than under any other system. His friend James Madison evoked these words when Jefferson died on the Forth of July in 1826. He lives and will live in the memory and gratitude of the wise and of the good, as luminary of Science, as a votary of liberty, as a model of patriotism, and as a benefactor of human kind. .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb , .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb .postImageUrl , .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb , .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb:hover , .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb:visited , .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb:active { border:0!important; } .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb:active , .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u05325e9fddfaf60bc9828f117c8f86fb:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Aztecs (1473 words) EssayThe style is controversial and the book offers insights into Jeffersons psychology as well as historical data. 18-year-olds Going OTR Are They Ready Are You

18-year-olds Going OTR Are They Ready Are You The demands on the trucking industry are increasing every year- many companies are running at full capacity with daily shipments in need of experienced, licensed CDLs to pull their weight.  Might the 18-20 year old set offer the potential to fulfill urgent delivery schedules? While most states require drivers to be 21 to acquire their commercial driver’s licenses, some do allow 18-20 year olds to take regional trucking jobs. But they can’t cross state lines, and there’s a frustrating lag between graduating from high school, getting your CDL, and being eligible to take most jobs in the industry. Many young drivers move on to careers that are more readily available, which means the industry is missing out.An Argument AgainstOne of the best tools for handling stressful job situations is maturity and experience- a teenager fresh out of high school probably hasn’t had to bounce back from so much as a fender-bender. Trucking requires the utmost professionalism and responsibility. Most teenagers make inadequate interns, but should we really trust them on the road?Brain Development in Progress: Both a Pro and a ConMaybe their reflexes are slightly sharper and they need less sleep, but the human brain continues to develop until age 25! Teens have underdeveloped frontal lobe, which is where impulse control, memory, attention, and consciousness are stored. On the flip side, they have a great capacity for learning, and by the time they’ve grown into full maturity as drivers, their skills will be ingrained.Plan for the FutureWhile executives, dispatchers, and company owners may feel its in their best interests to get young drivers on the road as soon as possible, in the interests of safety and performance, more training measures should  be developed before it becomes a viable industry-wide goal. Innovations like semi-automated trucking might help alleviate the risks of less-experienced young drivers (or benefit from their likely life-l ong fluency with new technology), and  ride-along training programs may help get the younger workforce up to speed faster and safer.

Function of the Scholastic Activities Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Function of the Scholastic Activities - Essay Example The following analysis will briefly recount one such story. For years one of my closest friends had been traveling to Peru to volunteer in a clinic that his mother ran deep within the Amazonian rainforest. I eyed their yearly trips to Peru with marked curiosity as I was unsure whether they were simply doing this in order to fulfill some type of religious requirement or take an exotic vacation. Finally, through the course of our friendship, I began to ask details of what this trip involved, what the purpose of it was, and why the family saw it necessary to do this. The response I received was entirely unexpected. The family invited me to come and see. By virtue of obtaining a US passport and assuring myself that I was up to date with all of my shots, I agreed and undertook to accompany them as they traveled to Peru. My expectations were low as I assumed that the family would live the life of Americans while administering to the needs of the Peruvians by day. What I saw helped to chang e my worldview. Rather than enjoying a life of relative ease, which could readily be been afforded, the family opted instead to live and work with the locals. This included eating the same foods, living in the same types of accommodations, sharing the same experience and customs with the locals. More than just a summer getaway with the added bonus of performing a modicum of â€Å"feel good humanitarian work†, what I saw was the selfless sacrifice on the part of this family as well as the other unpaid volunteers that had given freely of themselves to work with this community. With regards to what this did and what this taught me, it opened my eyes to the fact that there remains great need within this world.

Should the US build more nuclear power plants for an energy source Essay

Should the US build more nuclear power plants for an energy source - Essay Example Furthermore, safe ways for the disposal of nuclear waste should be devised so that no harm can be brought to people who come into contact with it and to the environment. Since the construction of more nuclear power plants depends on the goodwill of all the political groups involved, then it is advisable for all these parties to come to a consensus on how to best deal with the issue (Sains, 2001). The nuclear plants should be constructed and while this is being done, all the safety concerns of those who are skeptical about it should be addressed to ensure that all the parties are working together to create a safe and efficient source of energy. There are many advantages for the use of nuclear energy in the United States and these may be political, economic, and environmental among others. There are many economic benefits for the construction of nuclear power plants in the United States as a source of energy. One of these benefits is that very small amounts of raw materials are require d for the production of a large amount of nuclear energy (Cavallaro, 2010). Moreover, since these raw materials are required in such small quantities, they can be easily transported from one place to another even globally. The operation of nuclear power stations at their full capacity will ensure that cheap electricity is available in the market and that more people will be able to afford it. Nuclear power is a reliable source of energy because the average lifespan of a nuclear reactor is forty years and this lifespan can be extended by another twenty years (Weeks, 2006). Although the initial cost of constructing a nuclear plant is high, the cost of running it afterwards is relatively low and this makes it a very good investment. Nuclear power is very environmentally friendly because no harmful emissions are released into the environment during the process of producing energy, as compared to other sources of energy such as fossil fuels. Nuclear plants require very little space to co nstruct and because of this it has very little impact on the environment. It can be used to produce large amounts of energy at very little environmental cost compared to other sources of energy because nothing needs to be burned in order to produce energy (Clemmitt, 2010). Throughout the nuclear fuel cycle, all the byproducts produced are accounted for and it is carefully stored to ensure that there are no adverse impacts on the environment. It has been said of nuclear energy that since the beginning of the industrial revolution, it is the only industry which has managed to account for all of its waste that has a potential to harm the environment. The use of nuclear energy may also have a political impact on the United States especially at the international level. In the recent decades, the United States has, on numerous occasions, had to go to war in other countries to secure its energy interests. A very good example of this has been the First and the Second Gulf Wars whose main pu rpose was to secure the supply of oil. The use of nuclear energy would greatly reduce the dependence of the United States on foreign sources of energy because it would have more than enough for its domestic needs and it would even be able to export some of the surplus electricity to neighboring countries. Furthermore,

Personal experience Essay Example for Free

Personal experience Essay Few experiences in one’s lifetime have the capacity to transform. It takes an event of such immense magnitude to shake up ones’ frame of mind but when this occurs, one’s life never remains the same. Before the occurrence of such an event in my life, I was less concerned as the plight of refugees and I cared even less about the reasons behind their refugee status. However, I soon realized that these reasons were not as far fetched as I thought and that our country has a great role to play in these foreign nations. (Harries, 2004) The experience  During the month of July 2004, my family decided to visit some close relations at a neighboring districts; I had never been in that area before. Our intention was to stay there for two days. Our journey was uneventful but pleasant and we arrived there in one piece. Upon arrival, our hosts gave us a warm reception and asked us to feel at home. This was rather difficult owing to the fact that their house was much smaller than ours. I was beginning to ask myself just how long I could bear being so far away from home. These selfish feelings were quickly thrown aside when I noticed unusual family members joining us in the living room. Some young men probably in their mid twenties entered the living room and politely greeted us. I noticed that they had a foreign accent; one I had never heard before and this immediately sparked my curiosity. We began chatting with them and continued to so for one hour. They told us that they had been in the country for ten years and so they knew their way around our cousin’s neighborhood. Actually, I found out that my cousins (who are considerably older than I am) had adopted them seven years ago so we all shared second names. After a while, I got tired of staying indoors and asked the two guys to take me around; one was called Andrew and the other Gregory. I wanted to find out what had prompted Andrew and Gregory to leave their country that I assumed was in Africa. Andrew was more talkative than Gregory and the former began telling me the story of his life. He revealed that he was born and raised in Rwanda until the age of fifteen. Before coming to our country, he had been living a relatively normal life with his family and friends. However, in the year 1994, something happened in their country to change all this. Their prime minister who happened to come from the Hutu tribe was assassinated and all hell broke loose. Andrew told me that the political assassination was merely the straw that broke the camels back because there were ethnic tensions between the two Rwandese tribes from as far back as the colonial times. Andrew narrated that everything changed in a flash, the national radio was taken over by the Hutus (the majority tribe) and they used it to spread hate speech about the minorities who were the Tutsi. Andrew told me that he was a Tutsi and was therefore a potential victim of these extermination crimes. He explained that killings began in different parts of the country and they eventually reached his village. He had managed to hide from the exterminators because a member of the other tribe was protecting his family in a church. But the exterminators learned of this, and entered the church; they were armed with machetes and guns exclaimed ‘come out you little cockroaches! ’ Andrew watched as his family members were killed one after the other. He was lucky that the bullets never got to him since dead bodies covered him. The attackers went around to ensure that no one was left alive. When they got to Andrew, he had so much blood from other people that they assumed he was dead. The same thing had happened to Gregory. Andrew told me that he had remained under those piles of dead bodies for a whole week. What I learnt from the experienced Andrew and Gregory were one of the lucky Tutsi survivors who were enrolled in refugee programs with our country through an NGO. They stayed with this non-governmental organization until my cousins learnt about their story and volunteered to adopt them. I learnt many things from my experience with Andrew and Gregory. First of all, I learnt to appreciate the peace and freedom, that exists within our country because it gave hope to people who had lost it completely. These two young men had a chance to start their lives all over again because a country like ours was open to their experience. (Hamilton, 2000) However, I was deeply disturbed by the role that the rest of the world could have played in their country. Many people have suggested that had the world intervened in the Rwandan genocide much earlier, then the hundreds of thousands of lives lost would have been spared. This was a modern – day Holocaust and every government in the world; including ours turned a deaf year to their plight. The Rwandese killed themselves for four months without outside intervention even from the UN. This issue got me thinking about our government’s role in peace keeping missions around the world; especially those ones that have the danger of spiraling out of control. The citizens of this country may be living in relative peace but as international citizens, it is the duty of our government to protect the lives of innocent citizens such as Andrew and Gregory. I would never have thought of this issue, if my family had not taken that trip to visit our cousins. Through their kind actions, I began asking myself whether the government itself can demonstrate such good neighborliness today especially with regard to troubled countries. (DuBois, 2005) Political and social significance of the event This event was a revelation to me as I hope it will be to the rest of the class because I saw our government through different eyes. Andrew explained that if there had been outside help, then they would not have to deal with some of the problems that they were undergoing at the time. The world has become increasingly global; through information technology, we can now hear, watch and even analyze political and social issues in other countries. In contrast to the mid nineties, news of any nature can reach individuals in different parts of the world at the touch of a button. Consequently, our country and its citizens are firmly aware of the issues prevailing in almost all parts of the world. The government therefore has a platform for looking into the prevailing problems of the world. While our government has tried giving assistance, to certain countries, it would be nobler if the government extended their role in humanitarian crises of the world by participating in preventative initiatives. (Kissinger, 2001) One such illustration occurred earlier this year when an East African nation; Kenya began engaging in post election violence. The clashes and killings were as a result of ethnic and political tension prevailing in that country. The world did not watch as these people continued killing one another because the US government sent its secretary of state who strongly suggested a government of national unity; their interventions saved that nation. Other countries also intervened and the violence was immediately halted. Our government should adopt such a strategy its foreign policy. It is not responsible to simply turn a blind eye to other countries when there is something that our government can do. Arnold, 2001) Another example of a country at war is Sudan; this country has been undergoing a lot of turmoil especially in the Darfur region. Many western or foreign countries have taken a hands-off approach to the plight of the Sudanese because they have assumed that these problems have nothing to do with them. However, as citizens of the world and also as responsible citizens, it is the duty of the government to ta ke part in such initiatives a little more. We cannot operate in isolation because we all need one another. Had governments in the world been more vigilant about helping one another, the situation in Rwanda would not have catapulted into such magnanimous levels. Consequently, similar events in other countries can also be prevented if the government was keener with taking part in peacekeeping missions. Indeed our country’s foreign policy should be viewed a social work because we are our neighbor’s keepers. (Mandelbaum, 2002) Change starts from within and it then spreads to other parts of the world. If our government was to take up its international responsibility today, then the lives of many innocent people could be changed forever. Conclusion The event that changed my life occurred four years ago when I took a trip to my cousins’ place at a nearby district. During my stay there, I met some adopted nephews of Rwandese descent. They told me about their story and how they lost their lives. This meeting with them changed the way I perceived our government’s role in international affairs because I realized that it is not doing enough. Our government needs to exercise more corporate citizenry in order to prevent horrendous occurrences like Andrew’s and Gregory. If our government had been more participatory, then these Rwandese boys would still have relatives today. (Turner, 2001)

Developing Health Policies Essay -- Health Care

Health policies are developed and changed in order to improve access to care, control costs and expand quality. Each country will have its own challenges in accomplishing these goals dependent on the diversities of the population, including wealth, sanitation, education, location, and lifestyles. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) changed the payment methodology for Medicare Advantage plans to a model that provides resources based on the chronic conditions being cared for in the senior population. CMS had the three goals in mind with the creation of the Risk Adjustment Model. This policy change took ten years to implement fully. The difficulties and trials of developing health policies have no easy answers or fixes, but are meant to improve the health of the citizens of the country creating the policies. Challenges in Policy Development Level of care provided In an article by Jamison and Mosley (1991), they write the policy debate in international health has often been polarized around conflicting viewpoints on such issues as preventive versus curative services, selective versus comprehensive primary health care, or integrated versus vertical programs. As we approach the 21st century, it is becoming clear that framing the issues in these terms will not enlighten the policy process, primarily because it limits the options largely to actions that can be carried out directly by ministries of health. Profound social and economic transformations are projected to impact on health in the developing countries in the 1990s and beyond; implications for the epidemiological profiles of these countries will be dramatic. A more comprehensive analytical approach is required to formulate health policies that will not only respond t... ...easibly be provided, and what can be afforded is extremely important. No health policy will be perfect, but hopefully one can be established that will promote health care, education and healthy environments for a majority of a countries population. Every Company Is a Publishing Company

Every Company Is a Publishing Company Every Company Is a Publishing Company Every Company Is a Publishing Company By Mark Nichol A recent Wall Street Journal article that beamed a spotlight on sophomoric speaking and grammar gaffes in the workplace covered the issue fairly thoroughly but left unsaid some pertinent points. The article discussed the epidemic of informality in critical corporate settings such as staff meetings and in-person communication with clients: What do you do when employees seem ignorant of expectations for adopting the appropriate linguistic register in these contexts, using chatting vernacular (â€Å"You guys, like, cut it out!†) when a moderate degree of formality (â€Å"Please, let’s just have one person talk at a time†) or even a sober formality (â€Å"I wish to remind you to raise your hand if you wish to be called on to comment†) may be expected? It also discusses disturbingly colloquial correspondence, or that which is rife with typographical errors and poor grammar. The answer, for some companies, is to require employees to have one or more colleagues review letters and emails before they are sent out. Others hire consultants to train workers to become better writers. But both strategies have their weaknesses: Two or three heads are not necessarily better than one, especially if they are empty when it comes to writing skills. And writing workshops can only accomplish so much unless they are intensive and extensive and expensive. A combination of these approaches is best but still won’t produce flawless results, and many businesses are not willing or able to invest in the effort. Is this issue such a big deal? It depends on who you ask. This word nerd says, â€Å"Hell, yeah!† (or, depending on the pertinent linguistic register, â€Å"Indubitably.†). What does every enterprise have in common, besides selling a product, a service, or an idea? The answer: communication. All businesses must connect with current and prospective customers or clients, and partners, through transmission of language (usually at least primarily written language). Even if the only text the recipient sees is a business card, an invoice, or an email, the company’s reputation is on the line on every line. What’s the ideal solution? Every business publishes information (and, believe it or not, clients and customers notice poor and careless writing, even if they don’t recognize specific errors). So, treat your business like a publishing company, and institute an editorial process. At my last job before I began the current freelancing phase of my editing and writing career, I was responsible for the presentation of all content on the website of a prestigious educational foundation. Therefore, I considered it of paramount importance that the content be of outstanding quality. In addition to editing the journalistic content, I insisted on editing all marketing and advertising copy, I vetted job postings, I even pored through the site’s terms of use. Eventually, this comprehensive quality control became onerous and I delegated some responsibilities, but visitors had to work hard to find errors on that site. If you work at a sizeable company and you have responsibility for or are otherwise involved in the generation of business-to-business, business-to-client/customer, or even internal content, I urge you to consider or recommend designating the resident grammar geek, or a hiring a staff or contract editor, to serve as the conduit for at least the most significant communications or correspondence. Of course, only the smallest enterprises can monitor all messaging, and even then, requiring inspection of all email messages seems repressive. But the solution discussed above, perhaps combined with workshops and one-on-one consultation conducted by the designated editor, will have a significant positive impact on the quality of your company’s communications. An Observation of Clients Suffering from Common Mental Disorders and the Legal Implications of Sharing Patient Information

An Observation of Clients Suffering from Common Mental Disorders and the Legal Implications of Sharing Patient Information In the past week, I observed two clients who were suffering from common mental disorders although the development of the condition was very different especially because of the existing differences in social environment. The clients had a behavioral engagement group session. Sharing of patient information without their consent is illegal as per the HIPAA guidelines although provision of a general focus and understanding is accepted without exposing the privacy of the clients. Client description The first client was a thirteen-year-old male child who was having an oppositional defiant disorder. This was confirmed after a series of tests. The client was very argumentative and got easily annoyed even for no good reason. The client had not sought any prior medical attention since the situation was largely assumed by parents who thought that it was just a stage before escalating where the client at times was unable to control his action. The second client that I observed was a 15-year-old male who had serious challenges regarding her ability to concentrate. The client could not focus and pay attention for a continuous ten minutes. This situation was very worrying especially his school life where his grades were getting poor and there was no way that even teachers and his parents could do to change the trend. The client was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (McGillivray Evert, 2014). DSM-5 The DSM-5 highlights that for an individual to be diagnosed with mental disorder condition, they must have had emotional and behavioral symptoms that have lasted for a period of at least six months. This requirement was valid in this case considering the fact that the clients had the condition for years. The condition of their mental disorders were moderate since the symptoms used to occur both at home and at school (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Legal implications The legal issues in both cases are based on ensuring that patient information is held with privacy and high level of confidentiality to ensure that the privacy of each patient is maintained. This enhances professional relationship between the client and the counselor. The client must consent to the treatment intervention suggested. This entails informed consent that is a serious aspect in delivery of healthcare (Wheeler, 2014).

) In your opinion, was slavery in New York City substantially different from slavery in the South during the colonial period How and why - Assignment Example The slave system in New York is substantially similar to the slavery in the south. Despite the difference in the geography of the two zones, the purpose of slavery and the consequent treatment of slaves in the two regions was the same. The circumstances that led to the preference of the slave labor in both New York and the south are similar. In New York, the period prior to the enslavement regime showcases a place whereby labor providers were mostly residents from Britain, who were either law breakers avoiding a jail term or jobless individuals1. In the south, the situation was similar in that the workers prior to the slavery period were immigrants from Britain. After some time, the Britons would leave especially after attaining skills2. The fact was after a short span of time. History also puts forward that economy of England was improving. Therefore, in the 18th and the 17th century, the employment levels in the nation became more promising. Consequently, the number of residents leaving the country became fewer by the day. Due to the fact, work in the America became hard to come by, and other sources of labor became not only important but also significant. The records state that New York became the center of the slave trade. The city was also dependent on slave labor for the development programs then. In a similar view, the south was likewise a market for the slaves. The main reason behind the proposition is that the vast firms in the south were in need of stable and efficient work. The scenario thus was similar in the two locations since both were destinations for the black slaves. Slavery in the south turns out to be dominant despite the test of time unlike in the New York City. The economy of the south found its foundation on the slavery system. Although the enslavement codes were at practice in New York, the place was one of the first locations that the proposals for the
